Patterning Practice with Artist-in-Residence Surabhi Ghosh

In this hands-on workshop, participants will have the opportunity to draw, trace, and color their own original patterns. Surabhi Ghosh will also give a short presentation to establish the foundations for creating repeat patterns. No prior experience is required, though experienced artists who are interested in repetitive imagery may also discover some new approaches! Appropriate for ages 12+

$10 for SPACE members
$12 for non-members

Please note that this workshop takes place at Able Baker Contemporary, located at 29 Forest Avenue in Portland, ME.

This program is co-presented by Able Baker Contemporary and SPACE Gallery's Artist-in-Residence program

Surabhi Ghosh is an artist and educator based in Montreal, Quebec. Her current work investigates the transmission of culture to diasporic people, specifically South Asian immigrants and their descendants in North America. She uses textiles, patterns, and site-responsive installations to materialize contradictory narratives which begin and end in her own experiences. In 2017, her work has been on view at the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle and FOFA Gallery at Concordia University in Montreal. She is currently an artist-in-residence at SPACE, where she is grappling with the relationship between her ongoing historical research and her studio practice.
